A 16 year old girl was living her casual life with her family, in New Delhi, until she suffered from DEPRESSION and committed suicide. WHY?

Why is this all happening these days? Why is youth so much obsessed with ending their precious life? What is depression exactly?

Depression is something that happens within you. When you expected something to happen and it did not happen. You expected somebody or something to be your way or the world or the destiny to be your way, and it did not turned out to be that way. In other words, you are simply against what is happening; that’s all! Maybe you are against a person, a situation or life itself. Accordingly, the depression will run deeper and deeper.

Tiktok Star, Siya Kakkar, a 16 year old girl, born and brought up in New Delhi committed suicide on 25th June, 2020 around 9 pm at her own residence. She had about 11 lakh followers on Tiktok and more than 1 lakh followers on Instagram. A girl, who is loved so much on social media suddenly commits suicide because according to the reports she was suffering from depression from the last few days. Although, she was living with her parents but they didn’t even noticed her depression or maybe they didn’t took it that much seriously. Depression is one of the leading causes of suicide in India, which has became the second leading cause of death among young Indians, according to a study published in the medical journal The Lancet. While most people shy away from admitting it, many others remain unaware of their condition. Often confused with sadness and pessimism, it is easy to mistake this mental disorder for just a “low point” in life. Tragically, cases of undiagnosed and untreated depression are rampant in India as well as India is home to around 57 million people (nearly 18 per cent of the global estimate) suffering from depression, as per WHO. The thing is that depression or anxiety must not be taken lightly by anyone in the society. It is high time to realise that people are losing their lives because no one understands their feelings. There is a need to encourage conversations regarding mental health to break the stigma surrounding it.

The death of Tik Tok star, Siya Kakkar has sent her fans and video sharing community in a state of grief and shock. We need to teach everyone that giving up is not the solution. Why do people give up on their lives so easily? Why don’t they understand they will never get another chance to live a beautiful life like this? WHO must take measures to set up counselling sessions in each school and people must be taught that they can talk to anyone about their problem without any hesitation. Siya is not the only one who committed suicide due to depression. Indian society has not got over Sushant Singh Rajput’s death who also committed suicide due to the same reason and another one has gone. When will all this stop? The answer is, only when every single person starts paying attention towards their loved ones.
